New “Covid-Tested” flight procedure with USA with no quarantine obligation upon arrival in Italy
As of 8 December, all passengers travelling on Alitalia with New York must show a certificate proving a negative Covid-19 test, carried out within 48 hours before the flight, or must undergo an antigen test directly at the airport before boarding. Those departing from the United States, upon arrival at Fiumicino, will be asked to undergo a new antigen test; a double check that will exempt passengers from mandatory quarantine when entering Italy.
As of 19 December, the same travel procedures will also be launched for flights operated by Delta Air Lines with Atlanta.
The new travel protocol, also referred to by Prime Ministerial Decree dated 3 December, is governed by order of the Minister of Health dated 23 November 2020, issued in agreement with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The government provision shall be in force, unless extended, until 15 February 2021. The restrictions on entry into the United States provided for by the provisions of the American administration and the essential travel reasons set out by the authorities for entry into Italy remain valid.
The first Alitalia flight from NY has landed yesterday in Fiumicino Airport and Delta will follow from Atlanta on December 19th…
